Apartments for family groups
Venice in many ways is ideal for families, with its great big campi (squares) free of cars where you can sit and tuck into a brioche and a frothy cappuccino, safely leaving the children to play with the local bambini to their hearts' content. Of course the idea of lugging pushchairs over numerous bridges would challenge even the most athletic among us, but all is not lost - my advice is to leave off the weight training of the buggy every now and then and take the vaporetto - fun for all! Venetians are hugely child friendly... in fact I once missed my vaporetto stop because everyone was fussing over my baby daughter (who cares about getting off when that happens!), so whether you're negotiating the steps of Santa Lucia or squeezing into a trendy bar help will always be at hand.
There is also the Lido with its huge stretch of beach and sea, mouth watering gelaterias on every street corner for those needing gentle bribing into the next ecclesiastical wonder, and of course the numerous bars serving the Venetian cocktail Spritz... which luckily looks like Tizer but has a great kick... for the parents only!
Taking an apartment for a family makes life that little bit easier. Instead of being restricted to the confines of a hotel room one can make a home away from home even if only for a long weekend. The apartments below are just suggestions to aid you in your decision; the list is not exhaustive - however most have been selected for various attributes such as having washing machines, dishwashers, large kitchens to eat in, fridges to store baby food and cater for even the fussiest of eaters, outside space to relax/play in and separate rooms for children to sleep in. Oh and of course, space to park the pushchair...
